LEGAL CLAIMS AGAINST ZANTAC FOR CANCER CAUSED BY N-NITROSODIMETHYLAMINE (NDMA)

Friday, April 9, 2021Written by: Jim Wilkerson

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer resulting from taking Zantac or its generic ingredient ranitidine, you are not alone. There is currently a multi-district litigation (MDL) presiding over many lawsuits that have been filed against Zantac. These lawsuits are being reviewed, individually, in one district court – the Southern District of Florida (West Palm Beach). Depending on the severity of the plaintiff’s injuries and whether the case goes to trial, settlements from these lawsuits have ranged anywhere from less than $100,000 to more than $500,000. One lawsuit that went to trial was rewarded $1 billion.

The Law Office of James M. Wilkerson is currently accepting clients who have developed cancer as a result from taking Zantac or ranitidine. Clients with liver, stomach, bladder, breast, intestinal, colorectal, or esophageal cancer can qualify. When scheduling the initial consultation, the attorney or paralegal will ask that you bring medical records and proof of taking Zantac daily or regularly for at least six months. In the unfortunate event that someone has passed away due to cancer resulting from taking Zantac or ranitidine, the attorney or paralegal will also ask that the client bring the decedent’s death certificate.

The next step will be to file the petition in MDL No. 2924 in the Southern District of Florida under Judge Robin L. Rosenberg. Typically, the only obligation for the client after filing is to fill out census forms and comprehensive information sheets that will help the judge better understand the client’s medical history. The attorneys will take care of the rest of the litigation.

To clarify, this is NOT a class action. Class actions typically settle for less because individual plaintiffs do not have as much power to decide whether to accept the settlement. In an MDL, the individual plaintiffs have all the authority to determine whether they accept or reject any settlement offer from the defendant (Zantac). This typically results in higher payouts for the plaintiffs.

MDLs may seem complicated and daunting to those who have never been a part of one. But the Law Office of James M. Wilkerson has the experience and has been recently successful in assisting clients involved in MDLs – 2244 (Pinnacle Hip Implant Products Liability) and 2741 (Roundup Products Liability). You can be rest assured that your case will be handled with care and due diligence by one of the most experienced lawyers in products liability in North Louisiana.

If you, or a loved one, have been harmed by taking Zantac or ranitidine, do not hesitate to call the Law Office of James M. Wilkerson for a free consultation at 318-255-9299.
